About the FACHwerk team

Which is basically just me.

My name is Henrique Schlatter Manfroi. I am 23 years old, living in Porto Alegre, Brazil. I am a huge gamer, and have been working with games since 2003.

I started out as an intern in the art team at Southlogic Studios, Brazil. It was really a stroke of luck that my first job was a job in the games industry. I was 18 at the time and I couldn't model 3d or code at all.

So, while I was working the afternoon/night shift, I started studying at UNISINOS in a game development graduation.

Almost 5 years later I have accumulated multiple skills and tasks, worked on the Art, Level Design, Outsourcing and Programming teams, as well as between them occasionally.

And this is my graduation project.

About FACHwerk

FACHwerk is a game design framework project based on simple competitive game mechanics and centered on the idea of a match between two or more players. This project is being developed as my graduation project at UNISINOS, Brazil.

The idea came about when I was addicted to DotA, the Warcraft 3 custom map. It got me and my friends discussing a variety of gameplay topics, trying to figure out why the game is so addicting, being so simple. After such discussions, I would feel so compelled to design a competitive game in the likeness of DotA.

Thing is, I eventually realized that it was not about making a game. It was about understanding the basic principles of a multiplayer game. Suddenly, the concepts of match, player, rules, victory conditions came to mind, and I was not thinking about that game anymore. I was thinking about what makes a multiplayer match so compelling.

After a bit of research and some long hours of reading, I knew I didn't want to make the game. I wanted to make a design platform for any multiplayer game.

And the FACHwerk framework idea came about.

Keep tuned for a more verbose description of what the project is exactly on the next post.
